Performance Audit Report on Tourism Sector will be deliberated in the Joint Sitting

In the 6th sitting of the National Council, the Hon’ble Sangay Khandu, Deputy Chairperson of the Economic Affairs Committee presented the background note on Performance Audit report on Tourism Sector which was submitted by the Royal Audit Authority (RAA) prior to the commencement of 19th session of NC.

Presenting the report, he said that the RAA's findings and recommendations on the Performance Audit Report on Tourism sector were similar to the recommendations passed by the National Council during its 16th session. Given the common findings of the two reports, the EAC in the 49th Plenary was directed to frame a question to the Prime Minister being as the Chairperson of the Tourism Council of Bhutan, Gross National Happiness Commission and Cabinet to find out why the Government failed to adopt the Tourism Policy and table the Tourism Bill. He added that, Plenary also directed the Committee to explore the possibility of sending the report to the Public Account Committee (PAC) for review and to submit to the Joint Sitting.

The sitting adjourned with no further deliberation on the Performance Audit Report on Tourism Sector accepting two submissions made by the committee to conduct Oral Question with the Prime Minister on adoption of Tourism Policy and tabling of Tourism Bill which is scheduled on 17th May 2017 and to report the whole Performance Audit Report on Tourism sector by PAC to the Joint Sitting.

The House will resume with the presentation of Annual Anti-Corruption Report 2016 followed by Question Answer session with Prime Minister and Minister for Home and Culture Affairs on 17th May.
