Standing Committee meeting on Social and Cultural Affairs of the Asian Parliamentary Assembly (APA) commences

The meeting on the Standing Committee on Social and Cultural Affairs of the Asian Parliamentary Assembly (APA) commenced with a traditional marchang offering this morning in the Convention Centre in Thimphu.

More than 100 parliamentarians, parliamentary officials, and APA officials from 20 Asian countries are attending the two-day meeting on 31 August and 1 September. This is the first and biggest regional parliamentary meeting Bhutan is hosting.

The inaugural ceremony began with series of remarks starting from with the Hon. Tshogpon Jigme Zangpo, Speaker of National Assembly of Bhutan, Dr. Mohammad Reza Majidi, Secretary General, APA, Dr. Nguon Nhel, President, APA, 
Mr. Gerald Daly, Resident Coordinator, UNDP Bhutan and keynote address His Excellency, Lyonchhen Dasho Tshering Tobgay, Hon. Prime Minister of Bhutan.

A day long discussion was held on the nine draft resolutions.
