Press Conference of the National Council on the Resolution of the 21st Session

The concluding press conference of the National Council for the 21st session was held on 28th June 2018.

Hon. Jigme Wangchuk, Deputy Chairperson of the National Council; Hon. Tashi Wangmo, Chairperson of the Good Governance Committee; Hon. Karma Tshering, Chairperson of the Legislative Committee; and Hon. Lhatu, Chairperson of the Foreign Relations Committee also took part during the press conference.

Welcoming the reporters, the Deputy Chairperson of the National Council briefly shared the decision made by the House on responses received on the follow-up report on the 20th session on the Local Government Members Leave Entitlement; Allocating Budget for Black-topping of Chuzomsa-Baylandra Road; G2C services; and Legal Aid to Indigent Persons.

The respective Committee Chairpersons also updated the reporters on the resolution adopted during the 21st session.

They reported that the House adopted two recommendations proposed by GGC on the Annual Anti-Corruption Commission Report 2017; ratified the Agreement between the Royal Government of Bhutan and People’s Republic of Bangladesh for the avoidance of Double taxation and Prevention of Fiscal Evasion with respect to Taxes of Income; adoption of the interim budget and appropriations of the Bill for six month;  and the adoption of the disputed clauses of the Audit Bill of the Kingdom of Bhutan 2017 in the Joint Sitting.

Hon’ble Jigme Wangchuk also the spokesperson of the House reported that the session was the one of the shortest session conducted till date with only 11 sittings including the Joint Session.

The conference concluded with the spokesperson expressing appreciation to the media agencies for supporting the House with the coverage of the proceedings and participating in the press conference without failing.
