Gender and Child Sensitization Workshop

The Hon'ble Members of the National Council attended a day-long gender and child sensitization workshop organized by the National Commission for Women and Children (NCWC).

 

Welcoming the Chairperson and the Members, the Director of the NCWC, Aum Kunzang Lhamu presented the strategic overview, objective, vision and mission of the Commission. She highlighted the Commission's achievements of the 11th Five Year Plan, outline for the 12th Five Year Plan and challenges their organization is facing in fulfilling their mandate.

 

The workshop included a comprehensive presentation by various divisions of NCWC which included “Child wellbeing and protection in Bhutan”, “Gender Equality”, “Presentation on three Acts” among others. This was followed by an in-depth discussion covering many issues - the reliability of data collected from the research studies carried out by NCWC; the draft gender equality policy; creating a conducive working environment to enable women empowerment; addressing issues raised on social media regarding alleged trafficking and sexual violence of women and children; digital pornography; child sex tourism and the access of justice in rural areas.

 

The workshop concluded with closing remarks by the Hon. Chairperson and Director, NCWC.
