A six member international delegation led by Mr. Wajahat Habibulla, Chairperson, National Commission for Minorities, India called on the Hon’ble Chairperson of the National Council yesterday. Welcoming the delegation to Bhutan, the Chairperson expressed his profound gratitude for the timely visit by the delegation while the country was focusing on educating various stakeholders and the general public concerning the use of Right To Information (RTI).
The delegation shared their experiences and perceptions having worked on many similar fields like RTI. Further, the delegations stated that RTI legislation was one law which would never have negative implications in a society as the law encouraged people to participate in the process of democracy and promoted transparency, efficiency and accountability in the system. They also highlighted the greater benefits which could be reaped from the RTI Act such as the prospect of creating a platform for people to indulge in creative research activities through reshaping available information, thus contributing to global information.
During their stay in Bhutan, the delegation will conduct a two days Awareness seminar/workshop on Right to Information (RTI) from 30th -31st May, 2012 at Terma Linca resort in Thimphu.
Appreciating such kind of noble initiatives brought forward by the team, the Hon’ble Chairperson cordially thanked the government of India, UNDP and World Bank for the unwavering support and cooperation provided to Bhutan’s political, social and economic growth.Published on May 30, 2012 · Filed under: News;
