Joint Parliamentary Delegation from Bhutan visits India

A 10-member Joint Parliamentary Delegation from Bhutan left for New Delhi, yesterday on a visit to India from 5-10 August 2012 at the invitation of Honorable Speaker of Lok Sabha, India. Led by H.E. Lyonpo Namgye Penjore, the delegation comprises Leader of Opposition of National Assembly, Members of National Council and officials of the two houses.
While in India, the delegation is expected to call on the President of India, Prime Minister of India, Speaker of Lok Sabha, Chairman of Rajya Sabha and other dignitaries. They will also visit Goa from 6-7 August 2012 and meet the Chief Minister and Speaker of Goa Assembly.
This is part of the on-going Parliamentary Exchange Programme between the two Parliaments. A similar visit from India was received in May 2010 led by Her Excellency Shrimati Meira Kumar, Honorable Speaker of Lok Sabha. Such exchange of visits is expected to foster greater interaction between the parliamentarians of the two countries and thus contribute towards further strengthening the close relations between the Kingdom of Bhutan and the Republic of India.
