President of the Senate of Thailand visits Bhutan

A 7-member high-level delegation from the Kingdom of Thailand led by His Excellency Gen (Retd) Teeradej Meepien, President of the Senate and Vice-Chairman of the National Assembly of Thailand arrived here yesterday on a five-day official visit to Bhutan. The delegation called on the Hon’ble Chairperson of the National Council in the afternoon. Welcoming the delegation, Hon’ble Chairperson said that Bhutan and Thailand shared excellent relations and that there was tremendous goodwill and cooperation between the two countries. They spoke of the several similarities between the two Kingdoms and also discussed Bhutan's peaceful transition to democracy and its policy of Gross National Happiness. The delegation was particularly impressed with the pristine nature of our environment. They also conveyed condolences to the Government and the people of Bhutan over the recent fire accident in Wangduedzong and pledged to support in whatever ways they could.
The two sides expressed deep satisfaction over the close ties of cooperation existing between the Senate of Thailand and the National Council of Bhutan. To take the relationship a step further, they agreed to establish a Parliamentary Friendship Association with the aim to fostering greater interaction between the parliamentarians of the two friendly countries.
His Excellency Gen. (Retd.) Teeradej Meepien and his delegation will be leaving the country on July 20. The visit is part of the ongoing exchange of high-level delegation between the Senate of the Kingdom of Thailand and the National Council of the Kingdom of Bhutan.Published on July 17, 2012 · Filed under: News;
