Reflections on the 17th Session

Posted on :28 June 2016

Earlier today, the National Council (NC) held its in-house reflection exercise on the17th session in NC's plenary hall. In its efforts to develop and strengthen the good parliamentary practices,NC holds in-house reflection exercise after every parliamentary session to reflect and learn from the success and failure of its performance.

As usual, the members candidly shared their observations, feedback and recommendations on the way forward. Among others, the house reflected on how to make the deliberation on the budget and money bills more effective, conduct focused debate following question time, improving the question time guidelines, code of conduct for the members and on how to keep the substantive issues of national interest on the agenda.

Later in the afternoon, the Hon'ble Prime Minister had a meeting with NC members to discuss issues of mutual concerns. The NC feels such dialogues amongst the institutions are veryhealthy for democracy.

Tomorrow the committees shall convene to draw the work plan of the committees for the task assigned in preparation for the 18th session.
