Posted on :06 July 2016

The members of the National Council attended the address of the Prime Minister on the State of the Nation in the Joint Sitting yesterday.

As enshrined in the constitution of the Kingdom of Bhutan, the Prime Minister presented a detailed report of the State of the Nation to the Parliament.

Exclusively presenting the status of our country in the international front, the Prime Minister reported that inspite of the positive result the Country holds internationally, the focus should be towards enabling the conditions to pursue happiness in-line with the philosophy of Gross National Happiness gifted by His Majesty the Fourth Druk Gyalpo.

Further, he stated that this year’s State of the Nation is based on the extensive research and survey conducted by The Center for Bhutan Studies and GNH Research on Gross National Happiness (GNH) 2015. While presenting the report, the Prime Minister highlighted on the various findings such as health, education, living standard, rural development, women, employment, government services, environment and culture & religion of the country.

He also emphasized that the Government, Parliament, Local Government, Civil Servants and Civil Society Organization should take the GNH survey results seriously, which otherwise have a risk for just talk of GNH without serious implementation. Therefore, the government ensured to take the findings seriously and work hard towards improving government policies and plans.

The Joint Sitting concluded with the Speaker thanking the Prime Minister for the comprehensive presentation of the State of the Nation to the Parliament.
