36th meeting of NREC

The Natural Resource and Environment Committee (NREC) convened its 36th Committee meeting today to review Agriculture Policy that was assigned to the committee. The committee did SWOT analysis on the agriculture sector and identified 5 broad areas for further review such as measures to achieve food self sufficiency from domestic production, existing policies and measures to ensure growth in agriculture sector, attract youth to take up farming, challenges faced by RNR sector and seek update on implementation of 11th FYP pertaining to agriculture sector.

Tomorrow, NREC along with other members will attend a presentation by MoAF on the above issues. The committee will continue to meet the relevant agencies and stakeholders in its review work and subsequently update the House on its findings and seek their guidance and direction. The final findings will be presented in the upcoming winter session of the National Council for further deliberation and endorsements.
