21st Session of National Council Commences

The opening ceremony of the 21st Session of National Council commenced with a traditional Zhugdrel Phuensum Tshogpai Tendrel followed by an opening address by the Hon’ble Chairperson.

In his opening remarks, the Hon’ble Chairperson welcomed Hon’ble Lyonchhen, Hon’ble Speaker of National Assembly, and Zimpon Wogm from the office of Gyalpoi Zimpon, Dignitaries, guest and all viewers across the country. He on behalf of the members expressed their immense gratitude to His Majesty the King for granting the Dakyen with trust and confidence to the members of third National Council on the auspicious day of Duechen Ngazom. He further expressed that the day marked the befall of great responsibility to him and members to serve the Tsa-Wa-Sum.

He thanked the people of Shar-Dagye for re-electing him as their representative, members for entrusting him with the responsibility of Chairperson and His Majesty the King for graciously granting the Dakyen with trust.  He also thanked the monarchs of Bhutan, especially to His Majesty the King and His Majesty the Fourth Druk Gyalpo for further strengthening our sovereignty, peace and the security of our country.

Hon’ble Chairperson expressed his confidence in the members of third National Council to fulfill its sacred responsibility of legislation and policy review through check and balance, drawing inspiration from the golden words of His Majesty the King. In next five years, he expressed to emphasize on strengthening the sovereignty of the country, reducing the gap between rich and poor, boosting the economy, solving youth unemployment issues, reduce corruption and solving gungtong issues in rural areas.

Highlighting on the agenda of the 21st Session of the National Council, the Chairperson informed that the House will deliberate on the follow-up report of 20th session, the Agreement for avoidance of double taxation and prevention of fiscal evasion between Bhutan and Bangladesh for Ratification, Annual Anti Corruption Commission report 2017, introduce Budget and Appropriation Bill for the financial year 2018-2019 and one Question and Answer Session.

Hon’ble Chairperson concluded his address by offering prayer for the success of third National Council.

The session will resume on Monday.
