LC meets with National Law Review Taskforce

23rd August 2018: The Legislative Committee (LC) of the National Council (NC) met with the National Law Review Taskforce (NLRT) represented by the Chairperson – Dasho Shera Lhundup, Deputy Chairperson – Dasho Lungten Dubgyur and a Sr. Attorney from the Office of the Attorney General – Aum Namgay Om on 23rd August 2018 in the Conference Hall of the NC. This is the first consultative meeting convened by the LC as part of its review work pertaining to the “Report on Harmonization and Consolidation of Laws”. Led by the Chairperson of the Legislative Committee, LC and other interested members, the meeting was also attended by some Assistant Research Officers. The LC has been assigned by the NC with the task of reviewing the aforementioned Report and submit findings to the House during the coming Sessions to enable the NC to take appropriate and prioritized actions on the Report, where necessary. Following brief presentations on the background and contents of the Report by the NLRT representatives, the NC members sought clarifications and views on several issues. In closing the meeting, Hon’ble Karma Tshering, the Chairperson of the LC thanked the representatives of NLRT for not only coming and sharing their findings but also providing additional clarifications to many questions and doubts the NC members had with respect to the contents of the Report. He said that the clarifications and views shared by the NLRT representatives would benefit the LC in furthering its review work on the said Report.
