Mr. Derek Westfall, Dty. Minister Counsellor, US Embassy, New Delhi accompanied by Ms. Alexis Hart Haftvani, Desk officer for Nepal and Bhutan, U.S. Department of State paid a courtesy call on the Secretary General earlier today.
Cordially welcoming the delegation on behalf of the Chairperson of the National Council, the Secretary General talked about the inception of the Democratic System in Bhutan. He also briefly talked on the elections and the roles & responsibility of the National Council as House of Review.
The Delegation conveyed that Bhutan could take in the opportunity and consider joining the U.S. International Development Finance Corporation (IDFC). It offers new schemes which provide foreign aid through the financing of private development projects to the developing countries. The IDFC will have more than double the lending capacity of the existing Overseas Private Investment Corporation (OPIC).
The Delegations are on a five-day visit and will be leaving on Sunday 10th of March 2019.
