FRC meets with relevant stakeholders to discuss Air Service Agreement

Posted on :09 May 2019

Consultations on Air Services Agreement (ASA) between the Royal Government of Bhutan and the Government of United Arab Emirates (UAE).

The Foreign Relations Committee (FRC) of the National Council held detailed consultations with the Ministry of Information and Communications (MoIC), followed by a meeting with Drukair and Tashi Air to discuss issues and concerns related to aforementioned bilateral Air Service Agreement (ASA).

The discussions on the ASA were initiated in 2007 to expand air connectivity and explore new destinations. This was followed by a request from the UAE in 2011 to commence negotiations for the bilateral ASA. The governments of the two countries formally signed the ASA on 29 November 2018

In accordance with Article 10.25 of the Constitution, the Royal Government submitted it for ratification by Parliament. Following the discussions in the National Assembly in the first session of the Third Parliament, the National Council is scheduled to discuss the ASA in the upcoming session commencing on 23 May 2019.
