The Economic Affairs Committee met with the officials of Ministry of Information and communications

30th October 2019: The Economic Affairs Committee met with the officials of Ministry of Information and communications led by the Director General of Road Safety and Transport Authority.

The Ministry of Information and communications made a presentation highlighting the vehicle quota, current situation and future projection on growth of number of vehicles, factors contributing to the increase in vehicle numbers, impact of increasing vehicle number, past intervention or initiatives to reduce number of vehicle congestion, ongoing intervention/initiatives and way forward to reduce number of vehicle congestion.

The Ministry also shared their concerns and challenges they face in the way forward to reduce number of vehicle congestion and the ongoing interventions from their side.

Later in the afternoon the committee visited Royal Monetary Authority and discussed with the Governor and other officials about transport loans (policy reforms and intervention).

The RMA presented on the overview of loan growth in financial sector, sectoral loan composition, policy intervention on Transport loans and reserves outflows on import of vehicles- Rupee and CC.

The meeting concluded with Q and A session.
