7th Meeting of the Parliamentary Committee on the COVID-19 Preparedness and Response

Posted on :25 March 2020

The Parliamentary Committee on the COVID-19 Preparedness and Response met this morning to discuss following issues:

Evacuation of Bhutanese from affected countries;

Public reaction to the impossibility of importing vegetables amidst lockdown in India and closure of border gates;

Disinfecting public places and transport; and

Complete lockdown of the country.

The issues mentioned above were discussed at length. However, after careful consideration of the situation and seeking clarification from relevant government agencies, the Committee felt that the Government is already doing a commendable job in trying to put in place appropriate interventions. Therefore, the Committee decided that apart from applauding what the government is doing, there is no need to propose any advisories today.

The Committee however, will continue to meet as regularly as necessary to discuss emerging issues and work on providing possible support to the government in coming up with a contingency plan and ensure its effective implementation.
