Social and Cultural Affairs begins with its Consultative meeting

Earlier today, the Social and Cultural Affairs Committee conducted a consultative meeting with the Department of Law and Order (DLO), Royal Bhutan Police and Ministry of Foreign Affairs on the BIMSTEC Convention on Cooperation in International Terrorism, Transnational Organized Crime and Illicit Drug Trafficking which will be tabled in the upcoming session.

The nodal agency, DLO made a presentation on the National Interest Analysis report on the ratification of the Convention underlying the obligations, implications, advantages and disadvantages of ratification.

Consultation meetings are being carried out in line with Article 11 Section 25 of the Constitution of the Kingdom of Bhutan, which requires Parliament to ratify all International Conventions, Covenants, Treaties, Protocols and Agreements duly, acceded to by the Government. The committee will conduct similar consultation with other relevant agencies in the coming days.
