EAC Conducts Consultation Meeting on UNCAC and PTA
October 26, 2021: The Economic Affairs Committee held its Consultation Meeting with Ministry of Foreign Affairs to discuss on the United Nations Convention Against Corruption.  The main objective of consulting MoFA to discuss on the proposed actions to address the legal dilemma arising out of the inability to deposit Parliament’s reservation on Art 66(2) of the UNCAC. Three officials from MoFA attended the meeting in the morning. 
In the afternoon, a team from Ministry of Economic Affairs presented on Preferential Trade Agreement between People’s Republic of Bangladesh and Royal Government of Bhutan. EAC members were informed that the proposed PTA is aimed to enhance the bilateral trade between the two governments. The most important feature of PTA is the arrangement to give preferential access and more favorable treatment on certain goods by reducing tariffs and not by eliminating the tariffs completely. PTA proposes to add more products of both the countries in the duty-free market access list. 
The Consultation were held with an objective to understand the provisions of both the instruments which was forwarded to the House by the National Assembly during 5th Session of Third Parliament.
