Press Conference for the 28th Session of the National Council of Bhutan

In the press conference conducted today, Deputy Chairperson Hon’ble Jigme Wangchuk, who is also the Spokesperson of the National Council highlighted the agenda of the 28th Session. 

The Spokesperson reported that  the opening session of 6th session of the Third Parliamentwill be commencing on 24th November, 2021 and the opening of the 28th session of the National Council is scheduled on 26th November, 2021.

Subsequently, the respective Chairpersons of the committees provided a brief overview of the review works carried out on the various legislative, policy and international conventions assigned to the Committees.  

The relevant Chairpersons of the committees responded to the questions raised on: interventions made at the policy level on suicide and mental health; procedures on passing the Money Bills; updates on the Royal Audit Authority's report 2020 in resolving irregularities; and on the Civil Society Organizations (Amendment) Bill 2021. 

Hon’ble Phuntsho Rabten, Chairperson of the Legislative Committee; Hon’ble Surjaman Thapa, Chairperson of the Good Governance Committee; Hon’ble Lhaki Dolma, Chairperson of the Social & Cultural Affairs Committee; Hon’ble Ugyen Tshering, Chairperson of the Economic Affairs Committee/ Public Affairs Committee; and Hon’ble Tirtha Man Rai, Chairperson of the Natural Resources & Environment Committee participated in the press conference. 

12 media representatives from the Bhutan Broadcasting Service, Bhutan Times, Bhutan Today, Business Bhutan, Gyalchi Sarshog, The Bhutanese, The Journalist and Kuensel were present for the press conference. 

The press conference concluded with the Spokesperson expressing appreciation on behalf of the House to the media representatives for their continued support in timely reporting on the business of the National Council.
