Presentation on National Skills Development Initiative

Four officials led by the Director of the Department of Technical Education under the Ministry of Labour and Human Resources made a presentation on the “National Skills Development Initiative” to the Deputy Chairperson, Hon’ble Members, Secretary General, Director and staff of the National Council today. The presentation was carried out to inform the Hon'ble Members on the skilling programme initiative to engage and up-skill the youth so this could be further disseminated in their constituencies.

Reporting on the Royal Command received by the Ministry concerning youth employment, Mr Norbu Wangchuck, Director of the Department of Technical Education outlined the objective of the programmes. He appraised the Members that the programme will provide easy access to skills training and meaningfully engage, enhance skills and competencies of the Bhutanese workforce as well as prepare them for the world of work in the 21st century. 

The presentation provided an overview of the activities focused on the Skills Development Program (SDP) and Build Bhutan Project. The presentation outlined the targeted group, 108 proposed training areas, nine sectors classification, partner institutions and agencies, training modality SDP support Package, post skills training support, implementation status of SDP, the scope of Build Bhutan Project, scope, skilling in construction and summary of enrollment and plan for 2021-2022.

The Hon’ble Members shared their views and enquired on the village skills development programme, the employment rate for TVET, opportunity for Scholarships to the private sector, reasons for lack of interest shown in the construction and agriculture programmes by the youth from the other classified sectors, mindset of the workforce - youth and parents, creative art and design sectors scope, and post-training facilities support services amongst others.

The Hon’ble Members will share the skilling programme information to their respective constituencies during their upcoming visits.
