On January 16, 2025, the Foreign Relations Committee (FRC)of the National Council met with a delegation from the U.S. State Department and officials from the US Embassy in New Delhi.

The delegation which included Mr. Andrew Grimmer and Mr. Patrick Kelly, Foreign Affairs Officers of the Office of Monitor and Combat Trafficking in Persons at the U.S. State Department were warmly welcomed by Hon'ble Kesang Chuki Dorjee, Chairperson of the FRC.

Hon'ble Ugyen Tshering and the Human Rights and Foreign Relations Committee member, Hon'ble Dorji Wangmo from the National Assembly as well as Mr. Dane Robbins and Mr. Karma Gyeltshen from the Bhutan Unit, US Embassy in New Delhi were also present.

The Chairperson thanked the U.S. delegation for their continued support to combat human trafficking.

The Chairperson shared Parliament's contributions in reviewing the issue of human trafficking in 2019-2020 by the Social and Cultural Affairs Committee, the amendment of Section 154 of the Penal Code of Bhutan and the ratification of the United Nations Convention against Transnational Organized Crime and its Protocol - Prevent, Suppress and Punish, Trafficking in Persons, Especially Women and Children in 2023 as Bhutan's commitment to combat human trafficking.
