Economic Affairs Committee Concludes Public Consultations on Rural Credit Access
The
Economic Affairs Committee of the National Council successfully conducted a
series of public consultation meetings on rural credit access across Bhutan.
These consultations took place on August 26th and 27th, 2024, with the gewogs
of Mendrelgang, Patshaling, Phuentenchu, and Tsirangtoe in Tsirang Dzongkhag,
as well as Chumey gewog in Bumthang Dzongkhag.
Further
consultations were held with Kabji gewog in Punakha Dzongkhag on September 2nd,
2024.
These
meetings were instrumental in gathering insights and feedback from rural
communities regarding their experiences and challenges in accessing credit
facilities. With the public consultations now complete, the committee will move
forward with convening stakeholder meetings involving relevant agencies,
departments, and institutions to finalize a comprehensive report on rural
credit access in Bhutan.
The
final report will be presented for deliberation in the upcoming winter session
of the National Council.
The consultation tour
was made possible through the financial support of Project Nyamdrel.
