Hon’ble Chairperson Commences Official Tour to Central and Eastern Dzongkhags

Today, His Excellency Sangay Dorji, Chairperson of the National Council, commenced his official tour of the central and eastern Dzongkhags. The tour began with meetings in Trongsa and Bumthang Dzongkhags, where His Excellency discussed key national initiatives and the visionary leadership of His Majesty The King.

During the meetings, the Chairperson highlighted several significant Royal initiatives, including the Gyalsung Program and the Gelephu Mindfulness City project, emphasizing their long-term benefits for the country and the future of the younger generation. He also underscored the objectives of the 13th Five Year Plan (FYP), noting that the Gelephu Mindfulness City would be a central focus for ensuring the country’s sustainable development.

His Excellency raised a critical issue facing the nation, the increasing emigration of Bhutanese seeking employment abroad. He expressed concerns about the potential risks of depopulation and economic challenges and urged officials to develop localized strategies to address this issue effectively.

The Chairperson also provided updates on the ongoing work of the National Council's committees, reinforcing the importance of their legislative and review responsibilities.

In his address, His Excellency emphasized the significance of ‘3Cs’ – Communication, Coordination, and Commitment, as vital principles for achieving both personal and professional growth, aligning with His Majesty’s vision for the nation. He further expressed gratitude to all civil and public servants in the Dzongkhags for their unwavering dedication to the service of the Tsa-Wa-Sum.

The Chairperson's tour will continue with visits to seven more Dzongkhags and six Drungkhags, concluding on September 22, 2024.
