Presentation on Draft Parliament-Private Sector Strategy

The Hon'ble Chairperson, Members of the Good Governance Committee, Economic Affairs Committee, and Secretariat staff participated in a presentation on the ‘Zero Draft’ of the Collaboration Strategy between Parliament and the Private Sector under the Voice for Green Change Partnership (V4GCP) project.

Mr. Chhorten Dorji, Executive Director of the Handicraft Association of Bhutan (HAB), presented the draft strategy, emphasizing the vital role of the private sector in driving economic growth.

The presentation emphasized the potential contributions of Parliamentarians to the private sector development (PSD) outlining several strategies that could be achieved through its three primary functions: legislation, oversight and representation.

Following the presentation, Members provided valuable feedbacks, highlighting the need for clear collaboration with the Bhutan Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BCCI), empowering the media, and the preference for leveraging existing committees instead of forming new ones. The project is funded by the European Union (EU) and HAP in partnership with V4GCP and Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) aims to engage cottage and small industries (CSIs) in governance to develop a green, inclusive, and resilient economy.

The Hon’ble Chairperson proposed actionable steps to refine the draft before its final endorsement.
