SCAC visits Mongar Regional Referral Hospital

This morning, the Chairperson and Deputy Chairperson of the Social and Cultural Affairs Committee visited the Mongar Regional Referral Hospital. The Medical Superintendent, and Doctors from ENT, Paediatrics, Orthopaedic, Physiotherapy, and Psychiatry departments including senior nurses also attended the meeting.

During the interactive discussion, hospital professionals said that there were no specific strategies in place to cater to Persons with Disabilities. Also there was a lack of coordination and information sharing between relevant stakeholders including civil society organizations. The Members inquired about the certification procedures, outreach programmes and services catering to the PWDs.

The medical staff said that preventive programmes like  “Services of compassion and care” to remote communities were no longer being organized due to the lack of financial resources. The session concluded with a tour of the hospital.

Tomorrow, the committee will meet Gewog leaders of Trongsa Dzongkhag and then Tshangkha Inclusive Central School.
